During his time in Estonia, Chicago Eesti Maja member Liam Kivirist had the incredible opportunity to participate in the “Back to Our Roots Youth Exchange”, which brings people of Estonian descent from around the world to join locals on a 10-day adventure around the country, experiencing Estonian culture and exploring the topic of migration. We are sad to announce the passing of long-time member Frank Quinn who passed away on May 10th. Frank was an accomplished artist who illustrated many of the Chicago Estonian House’s advertisements and announcements over the years. He last provided the artwork for our 50th anniversary program. Rein Raja, a long-time member of the Chicago Estonian House, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022, in the room he considered home in his assisted living facility in St. Petersburg, Florida. He is survived by his wife Geri Raja. Rein will be cremated, and plans for what will follow are in discussion. In the meantime, the Florida Eesti Selts (of which he was also a member and their treasurer) is composing a tribute to Rein, and they invite you to participate by emailing your reflections to Tõnu Toomepuu or Triin Karr this week.
